Recently I received a call from one of the manufacturers we buy from.  They said that a man in Texas just call them stuck about a mile from his home in his power wheelchair.  We are located in Florida.  He had purchased the chair from us about a year and a half earlier and he did not have our number with him to call, even though we had put one of our stickers on his chair when he first received it.  He had replaced the shroud which is where we put the sticker.  The only name he saw on the chair was the manufacturer.  He was able to contact the manufacturer with his cell phone.  The manufacturer told me to wait about a half hour and call him at home for service.  Well, I waited and called him.  When I got him on the phone he was happy he made it back, but very out of breath.  I went ahead and set up a repair for his chair and he was grateful.  This was an unusual call and situation, quite different from the calls we normally get.  It made me think.  When you have a car there are companies that will come to your aid if you get stuck.  Wouldn't it be great if we could figure out a way to have that same service available to our customers in power wheelchairs?  After some very serious thought we came up with a way to make it work, a 24 hour, nationwide, emergency road side service for power wheelchair users.  We have picked out 4 chairs that we can do this with.  These 4 chairs will come with a 2 year in-home labor warranty and 2 year, 24 hour, nationwide, emergency, roadside service.  If we can not get you going on the spot we will get you home and bring a loaner out the next working day.  We will repair your chair at no charge within that 2 year period.  For question give us a call at 888 910-0444.  Visit us at our website Scooter Link
These are the 4 chairs that come with this service:

Bad example of a good customer service call.Big Smile

I don't get it...if a person is in a wheelchair...how can they push it home?  I guess not all wheelers are paralyzed like me.

Roadside service is a great idea.  I've wondered what I would do if I were to break down.  Figured I'd call 911.  Heaven forbid.  Cancel-cancel.

    Hi mcjane,

You're right and I understand the confusion.  We sell to people without insurance and people that do not meet the criteria to get a power chair covered by insurance.  Most of our customers can not walk long distances but are able to walk a little. Still many can not walk at all.  This customer was able to get his wheelchair home and asked Pride to have me wait and call him after he got home.  I sat in front of my computer after I got the call from Pride just thinking and wondering how we could solve the problem if it ever came up again.  I remembered a few years ago that the people that made arrangements for Christopher Reeves called me because he was coming to Tampa.  They wanted to know if we repaired Quickie wheelchairs and I told them yes.  I asked what was wrong with his chair and they said nothing, but that they just wanted to be prepared by knowing who to call if his chair went down while he was here.  We already have a dealer network for repairs and set ups around the country.  Anyone that purchases one of these 4 chairs at the posted price will get the roadside service.   At the time of purchase and before the chair arrives to the customer we will make 5 contacts of companies that will be on contract for this service.  We will be ready if it is the middle of the night, but are not expecting that middle of the night calls will be the norm.  Please keep in mind that we offer a much lower price on the same chairs, new, without roadside service.  We hope this service takes off and in the future we may offer it on more chairs.  Right now I took what I believe to be the best and most dependable manufacturer and their most popular chairs. Just remember, if this takes off and lots of other companies start this service, you know the guy that came up with the idea.  Hope this helped and thank you for asking, Joe - Scooter Link

OK, OK, I understand your comment.  The call from Pride was unexpected and we had not considered this service from state to state before.  In hindsight, I could and maybe should have asked Pride for his cell phone number to call him.  I am not sure Pride even got his cell phone number though.  I and we work to improve our nationwide service.  I will be more prepared next time we get a call like this.  Pride told the man that they would contact the dealer, us and have them call him.  He told Pride to have us wait about a half hour and he would be home.  Joe - Scooter Link

Do you offer a payment plan for people who do not have insurance coverage but would like the "luxury" of a power chair?  You know...easy monthly payments...
