When I went grocery shopping today, I came out of the store in the 'holiday' mood.  I think three things triggered this.  First, the store I went to had pine cones throughout the store that were laced with cinnamon.  Oh, they smelled so good!  Also, I noticed that the store finally had Coffee-mate's holiday flavored creamers in stock.  I happily picked up a couple bottles of the Peppermint Mocha creamer.  To top it off, I found a box of hot spiced apple cider mix.  Now, all I need to do is get out the decorations and the Christmas music!

What are some of your favorite smells and tastes of the holiday season?

I love waking up on Thanksgiving morning with the house filled with the smell of turkey in the oven.   Hmmmmm...  No that's heaven....

Started settling down for the night with a mug of cider, with a cinnamon stick for a little extra aroma.  It's so nice how the scent of cinnamon has such a calming effect.  BTW, I definitely agree with you, Kristina, about the smell of Christmas trees.  I remember, when I was younger, we would get our tree, trim off about ten sprigs/branches, and place them throughout the house.  The scent seemed to put us all in a great mood.  Oh, how I miss that!

tania: i also miss my childhood/early teens so much around the x-mas time (although in russia we celebrate new year). we had such wonderful decorations and the holiday spirit lingered for a good while. i won't lie, my holidays here have sucked so far.

oh, i just remembered one holiday taste: candied orange peels. my mom used to make them back in russia. about two years ago we found very similar homemade candied peels at a small gourmet place, but they have discontinued them since...

when it's real quiet and most people aren't up yet...early dawn, walking on crisp snow & ice when it makes a crackle sound and the air is so crisp and cold at times it can take your breath away and sting your nose. but you sure get rosey cheeks after that. Embarrassed

also i love looking at the lights.. the sound of the christmas season of people buying trees, and shopping.. the whole thing i adore.

    love debbie xoxo :)

I don't drool as a rule, but this thread is making me salivate!   I looked at some apple cider the other day...with cinnamon and cloves....mmmmmm.   I bet it wouldn't be hard to make candied orange peel.    A nice air freshner is to stick cloves in an orange and let it hang.  I like the WinterFest....I just wish they'd leave Jesus out of it.

Maybe I'll make a wreath out of the pine and cedar I have growing in my front yard....
