Disaboom really has no control over when information becomes available to the media (if it does at all). I'm sure there are many local/regional events that would be great for people with disabilities but they're not always marketed in that way or marketed with enough time for people who might want to attend to plan and make that happen.

As a blogger, I try to give as much notice as possible if I'm inviting people to participate but it's not always possible. The alternative would be not writing about it at all and I think that's even worse!

The whole concept behind DisaboomLive is that it's a place for Community members to share information.  We simply built a platform to facilitate the exchange of information between members.  It's really up to you guys to share information that you think is relevant and interesting to other members of the Community.

Disaboom receives notices and event information from several agencies, but by no means do we have access to all the information that's out there.  Our Content Team develops articles and blogs based on certain themes, like Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month or Spina Bifida Awareness Month.  We may also post certain press releases, such as information about Breast Cancer Walks, as a courtesy to our members.

We encourage members to share information about events, activities, and organizations in their area of the country/world.  Some organizations are community-based and it's really helpful to get the word out about the services they provide.

I live in Denver, Colorado, so I know a lot about what goes on around here just by watching my local news.  But I don't know what's going on in Wichita, Kansas, so it would be up to another member from Wichita to share information about what's going on there.

You can share information by starting a Discussion thread in a relevant forum or you can publish a Blog.  Whatever works best for you!  All submissions are welcome!  Yes

i was glad to see the info form you i responded so you and others saw it wasn't available. looks like they didn't get info out to you in a timely manner. Even though i've talked to that org several times i was never told they do support events. i missed out this time. i just asked to get emails on their up coming events too.. Most professional orgs and business have the option to receive weekly or monthly updates to make sure to inform as soon as there is a first contact.............................. unfortunately for us, non profit standards are not so high.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HOW DIFFICULT WOULD IT BE TO HAVE AN EVENT THREAD FOR EACH STATE? BETTER IF IT CAN BE SORTED BY DATE OR LOCATION - is that some how doable with the new changes?......................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> we could each add what we have from our areas. ................... ............................. and contact info .................. .................................... no comments from the peanut gallery so the threads don't fill up with non info ............................ THIS MIGHT GET MORE USERS ON TOO IF THERE WAS A GOOD RESOURCE GUIDE.

    Hi macdoodle,

You're right on track to sign up for various newsletters.  That's how we operate, too.  We need to know what's going on in the community so we can develop ideas for articles that would be of interest.  And we are truly grateful for the organizations that have the resources to commit to publishing a newsletter.

Of course, some of the non-profits run on a shoestring and a prayer, and they just don't have the money and resources to do everything they would like to do.  If we are interested in an organization that doesn't offer a newsletter, we mark their website as a favorite and return often to see their updates.

Part of my role in the DisaboomLive Community is alerting members to articles and videos available on Disaboom.com (our Media site).  Basically, I look at what is currently being discussed in the Community and then try to link you to additional resources that should be useful.

And sometimes I post press releases related to events.  When I post a press release, I always try to make sure that it is timely and that I'm posting in a relevant forum category.  My idea for a new feature would be to have an events calendar that members can post to.  You could then filter the calendar to view events in specific locations.  That's on my list for the next upgrade!

Until we have that type of calendar feature, I've thought about creating a forum specifically for events.  But I knew that it would eventually be too cumbersome to view and, therefore, it would not be really useful in that format.  So I'm just taking the approach that I'll start a new thread, in the appropriate forum category, for each thing I want to share with the Community.

I think we have a good variety of discussion forum categories available these days.  We have a forum for everything, from employment to adaptive sports to advocacy.  But if you don't find an appropriate forum for the information you want to share, please let me know.

Finally, I want to express appreciation to the organizations who are able to actively participate in the DisaboomLive Community.  The Advocacy Center in Louisiana publishes frequent blogs, and Mary Bryant from the Achilles Club posts here in the forums.

We invite all non-profit organizations to join DisaboomLive and start sharing information with our members.  Please help spread the word to the organizations that you are in contact with.  We would welcome them with open arms and a smile!    Big Smile
