I am a recept amputee, 3 months ago I lost my left foot below the knee, I have applied to SSI and to DARS who I thought they would help and care, I still have no help, I am unemployed and have no insurance. All these very helpful (NOT) people drag thier feet and have no answers for me. What do I do now, broke and stuck at house with no where to turn. Any ideas anyone, please!

Somebody cares, maybe you. I understand your situation as it sounds so familiar, but there is not much info to go on. There is always help around somewhere, it's just our ability to accept it sometimes. It takes time, and not knowing how much time you got it left on the planet it's a little hard to show compassion, maybe I got less than you. So let everyone know more about you're situation so we can give some usable advice.

First of all......welcome to Disaboom, DeanoA!  I hope you enjoy your time here.

From what my experience was and others who I've met.....most of us who have SSDI had a lawyer to help.  Find one who specalizes in Social Security Disability.  Most work on a contingency......so if you don't get paid, they don't either.  It motivates them to work hard for your case.  Someone with them may be able to help you with resources during the process.....which is not easy.  Sad to say, it is a diffictult process.  Good Luck to you.  There are other people here who are much better at sharing resources than I am.....hopefully they will find your post.  Good Luck!  and again, welcome to Disaboom!

    Welcome DeanoA:

I am a BTK amp myself. Reapply for SSI. They usually deny the first try. Why? So people like you will quit and not cost the government money. Reapply, and bury them with medical documentation. Good luck.

    Welcome to Disaboom DeanoA,

I'm pambe and I'm para with MS.

Morethanable is right, reapply for SSI. Squabwithfibro is right as well, you will do better with an attorney who specializes in disability, especially to get your SSD. Let them do the fighting for you. They work on a contingency, so there is no money paid up front. Your first consultation is free.

People do care, so don't give up. We care and you are not alone!  Keep in contact with us and let us know what is happening.

I agree with morethanable and others. Also, if your situation is dire you can apply for emergency funds with SSI unless I am mistaken. Go to www.socialsecurity.gov   Also, contact your local state representative, do not let them put you off and follow up with e-mail or documentation. We all have been through this, not something that anyone with health issues need is more stress. There are people that care.

You have to apply to SSDI and it takes a long time to get approved or not. They have disability lawyers who only deal with this and will get paid right out of whatever your settlement is. The local resources (State Social Services) should be able to help as well. I know it can take a long time for things like food stamps, SSI, Medicaid but you just have to call and ask what benefits you could qualify for. Voc Rehab may be another source for you as far as finding income (if you can work). Unfortunately nothing moves very fast and people aren't necessarily compassionate in the process but you have to keep pushing.

I've never dealt with SSI and I don't even know what DARS is, but from what I read on here, 3 months is not a long period of time when it comes to SSI.  So, I would say you need to give it more time or get an attorney.

What were you doing before you lost your foot?  What are your future prospect on getting back to work?
