In the last few days I have been asked at this site: (a) if I knew about NAMI and (b) if the sitation regarding mental illness awareness in Australia is similar to the USA. The answer to both questions is "yes." I have poste dmany times at the NAMI site and tried to help de-stigmatize mental illness Downunder in many ways--one of which is my own 'coming-out,' as it is called.-Ron in Tasmania

Good for you Ron! I personally, have struggled with depression for many years. Not only is it a symptom of MS, but it runs in my family. My son suffered with depression, as well and he committed suicide in 1991. My way of raising awareness has been to stop calling it "Mental Illness" and instead say, Mental Health. Sounds so much more hopeful for some all too often disabling and  sometimes fatal conditions. This is not intended to minimize anyone's situation rather, it is meant to de-stigmatize the attitude of those who do not understand that Mental Health issues are not something about which to feel shame. My hope is to promote compassion, acceptance and understanding.

Connectedness defines the collective unconscious of a body of people working together for the greater good of the individual.

Consider this; On a planet of over 6.5 billion people there are only 6 Degrees of Separation between you and anyone else on the planet.
