    Countdown Begins for Fundraising Event to Benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®; 590 Massage Envy Clinics in 40 States to Participate in September 15th Event with About 60,000 Total Massages to be Performed

     

    WHO:               Massage Envy Ltd., founded in 2001, is a nationally franchised massage company focused on providing professional, convenient and affordable massage therapy services through a network of approximately 588 franchised clinics throughout 41 states (as of August 31, 2009). 

     

    WHAT:             Massage for the Cure is a day-long fundraising event sponsored by Massage Envy to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  During the event, Massage Envy clinics nationwide will offer $35 one-hour therapeutic massage sessions, with $10 from each to be donated directly to various local affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Additional donations will also be accepted.

     

    It is expected that on this day, each clinic across the nation will perform about 100 massages for a total of 60,000 collectively, with 15,000 therapists participating.

    WHERE:          MASSAGE ENVY'S NEARLY 600 CLINICS NATIONWIDE

     

    In the Front Range market, all 21 Massage Envy clinics will participate benefiting both the Denver and Colorado Springs affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Massage Envy's clinics are in: Highlands Ranch, Arvada, Broomfield, Centennial (SouthGlenn), Parker, Denver (one in Tiffany Plaza and one in Cherry Creek North), Boulder, Thornton, Colorado Springs (2), Ft. Collins, Lakewood (2), Westminster, Aurora (Southlands and Southwest), Greenwood Village, Castle Rock, Longmont and Englewood.  Combined, these clinics represent a current membership base of more than 26,000 clients.  Collectively, they perform nearly 34,000 massages per month. 

     

    WHY:               This year alone, more than 180,000 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will lose their lives to the disease.  A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and the disease claims another life every 13 minutes.  This event allows Massage envy and Susan G. Komen for the Cure to partner to bring funds to each of the local communities involved.  For this year's event, Massage Envy's goal is to raise approximately $500,000.  This is the first year where the event will be held across all Massage Envy clinics nationwide, concurrently and the third time it is being held in Colorado.  

     

    All proceeds collected will go directly to the various local communities and will support breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives in communities across the U.S.

    MASSAGE ENVY® PROVIDES OVER 46,000 MASSAGES DURING NATIONAL EVENT

    Massage for the Cure to Benefit Denver and Colorado Springs Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Affiliates

     

    DENVER … December 3, 2009 – Massage Envy’s annual signature fundraising event, Massage for the Cure, raised $546,616 during the nationwide event. Massage for the Cure, hosted on Tuesday, September, 15th benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and helps fund breast cancer screening and treatment initiatives in Denver and Colorado Springs. Every one of Massage Envy’s 21 clinic across the Front Range was booked on September 15 for the daylong event, which provided one-hour therapeutic massages at a discounted price of $35, with $10 from each one directly benefiting the Denver and Colorado Springs Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliates. Additional donations were accepted, and all proceeds collected stay in the local community.

     

    “We are thrilled with the success of this year’s event,” said Massage Envy’s CEO David Humphrey. “The enthusiasm and dedication of Massage Envy owners, employees and clients has made Massage for the Cure our largest fundraising effort and we are incredibly grateful for their support.”

     

    Since the first Massage for the Cure event in 2005, Massage Envy has raised over $1.3 million for Komen. This year alone, Massage Envy raised $546,616, with 589 Massage Envy clinics across 41 states participating for the first time. Of that, $17,356 was raised in Denver from 19 clinics while $1,590 was raised from two locations in Colorado Springs.

     

    The money donated during Massage for the Cure will help fund educational and community outreach projects throughout Denver and Colorado Springs. The funds will also sponsor screening and treatment initiatives.
