I don't like to believe this....and yet I can't doubt it.  There is research that indicates that eating the nightshade family aggravates arthritis.  That includes tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, and tobacco.  Sigh.  I love tomatoes!

Recently a friend brought me some of their garden bounty...all kinds and colors of tomatoes...and I had tomato sandwiches for breakfast and lunch and between meal snacks...and I had spaghetti with roasted red peppers that I added fresh tomatoes to for dinner.  This was my diet for a few days.  And a few nights I had terrible arthritic pains in my shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers.  Prolly would have had it in my hips and knees and feet if it wasn't for this spinal cord injury that prevents feeling from T6 down.

Then I eliminated nightshade family from my diet and have not had pain during the night.  Hmmmm.   My friend's father is a professor emeritus at UF and did a study on the subject.  Like I said...I don't like to believe it....but I'm afraid it is true.

    Wow, Jane.

That`s very interesting .First, I was not aware that tomatos. potatos, pepper, eggplant and even tobacco are in the same family, nightshade.

I wonder if that study was published and is available through the UF or other sources.

Also, I could be wrong on this but I thought that peppers had a lot of capsasium in them and a while back capsacium was being praised for arthritis treatment.

I wonder if the link between tomatos, etc, and worsened arthritis symptoms  is true for everybody or is it limited to people who have sensitivities to members of the night shade family ? This sounds like something that merits further study.                 ollie

I came, I saw, I didn`t get out of there unscathed.
