Hi,
I'm frustrated and have tried everything I know of to get a steady job, one with benefits, that I can do without alot of speaking.
I've been diagnosed with MTD. Muscle Tension Disorder and my left vocal fold bows when it should be aligned with the right one.
Any time I'm under stress (alot, lately), am emotional, am self-conscious, my laranyx tightens up and either I speak so softly that no one can hear me, or it's broken up speech.
My Dad had it and we didn't know what it was back then, all we knew was to not upset our Dad or "he'll lose his voice" and he would....completely. If we heard him whispering, we knew right away that he was upset.
I've had this most of my life and I'm 49yrs old. The more I push, strain to get the words out, the worse I sound. I've always gotten the question "are you sick?".."what's wrong with your voice?" which makes me even more self-conscious.
I have years of experience in data entry, office work. I've always wanted to be a librarian because libraries are quiet and full of books which I love. But, in order to become a librarian, you need atleast a BA degree if not an MLS degree. Why? I'm not sure. But, in Colorado, you can't get hired if you don't have the education.
I'm single, my retirement fund is slowly being drained, I do everything possible that I can do for jobs. What I'd really like is to be hired permanently in a quiet atmosphere, or even from home (not with any scam jobs, though), get benefits and put back into my retirement fund.
Are there any jobs in Denver, CO to where I could get away with not speaking that much?
I love helping others, have huge compassion for others and have volunteered with the homeless, the troubled teens, fundraisers, concerts....etc.
Please help me know where I should look for a "quiet" job and.......also, how do you tell an employer that's interviewing you that you have a "speech disorder"?
Thank you and God bless each and everyone!
