I have a 9 week old kitten diagnosised with spinal bifida.  I took him down to Cornell Animal Hospital where the Neurologist said there is nothing they can do. I am the foster parent a rescue group placed this kitten with along with the the mom and two other kittens. The group said they would be unable to adopt him out and to put him down. This is an lovable Manx (tailess) kitten that is quite ambulatory with some weakness to his hind end. He is incontinant so I cover his butt with a cotton ball and band aide. I hate the thought of having to put to sleep any animal due to just a disability! Maybe someone out there knows a person who understands what it is like and would like to adopt Kirby!

I've never known of an animal with spina bifida.  I also have SB.  I wish I could adopt him, but I am allergic, and I couldn't afford to take care of him anyway.  You might want to contact your local ASPCA chapter or the Humane Society of the United States.  Either agency might be able to find him a home.  I wish you good luck finding him a good home!

    Hi Kirby,

This is the first time I have ever typed one word, much less to reply to someone!  I have been a member for a looooooong time and enjoy the site.  A couple of things made me write to you - first and foremost of course was the title of your mail.  I knew somehow it would be a kitty, which have become my favorite pets.  They're where it's at for a person with a disability!  And, I have a friend who has special needs kitties, hers has cerebral palsy and some who have feline lukemia.  I know she would take your kitten in a heartbeat.  She has a cat rescue that she started when she realized she didn't have enough money to live on!  She has every one spayed or neutered, shots, the works.  We live in Missouri and I don't have a clue where you are.  The second reason I wrote is because I have a son named Kirby!!
