Still hanging on in there Big Smile

    Hello there Scipilot,

Earlier this week I picked up an information sheet titled THE PROCESS OF QUITTING SMOKING when I went to my cardio-pulmonary rehab session. I asked about posting it and they don`t have a problem with that -it`s pretty generic and any means of getting this info out is okay with them.

Would you be interested in seeing what  they have to say?                                     ollie

I came, I saw, I didn`t get out of there unscathed.

GOOD FOR YOU SCIPILOT!!! Keep up the good work! I have two close friends who died of lung cancer in 07. One smoked like a chimney and the other never smoked, but died from secondhand smoke! Addiction is very powerful and it kills, so STAY STRONG & STAY HUMBLE!!!

Consider this; On a planet of over 6.5 billion people there are only 6 Degrees of Separation between you and anyone else on the planet.

    Scipilot

Good for you. You`ve got 4 months under your belt already.

That process of quitting is broken down into six steps.Since you`ve already been through steps 1 -4, I`ll just mention them in this post.

    1) Precontemplation never thought about quitting.

2 Contemplation-have thought about quitting, are waiting for a motivating event to help find reasons to quit.

    3) Action-have quit smoking.

    4) Maintenance - you`ve quit smoking but are in the first year of staying quit. After a full year of not smoking, you can claim success at cessation,

     5) This stage of the process can be a bit tricky. It is ominously called Relapse. A return to smoking after a period of not smoking. FIRST TIME QUITTERS ARE SUCCESSFUL 25 % OF THE TIME; others need to make another attempt. In fact most smokers need to try to quit at least three times before it works.Look at it this way -PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

    6) Renewed Action - PLEASE NOTE THAT 75% of the smokers will have to pass through this step to become a nonsmoker.

All I can tell you is that I spent A LOT of time in stages 5 and 6. It took me a lot more than three tries before i finally got it right. But apparently the countless number of times I, ollie, tried to quit I,  eventually did pay off!

Scipilot, I think you`ll do it in a lot fewer tries that it took me.No matter waht happens, keep at it til it works. later, I`ll put the whole thing in a blog post.                       ollie
