With the expected retirement of MILLIONS of  'boomers, perhaps one of the spinoffs of this tidal wave of humanity will be some leverage on the powers-that-be for uniformly more accessible facilities of all kinds. Let's hope so.

Universal home/building design will become common place when buyers refuse to purchase "standard" homes and buildings.

The Americans With Disabilities Act architectural guidelines (ADAAG), Title 24 of the California Building Code, and the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards, the discrepancies that exist between these standards needs to be resolved at the state and federal level.

People are going to continue to by the homes because that is all that is available, if the only meat you have to eat is turkey or chicken, it is hard to eat beef.  What people are doing now is buying the home that they can find that is the closet to what they want and then modifying it to fit them or they adjust to it.  Think of how many elderly people that have the big houses that have not been upstairs or down in their basements for years...

Unfortunately real estate is not a free economy market. unregulated- those with the money win. SUPPLIERS CONTROL WHAT IS OFFEReD TO DEMAND. and at what price........................OR was there really a big demand for homes we couldn't afford....and bad loans to get us in.................??!? ...... ................. .................................. IF supply aNd demand was equal IN THE MARKET there would be AS much affordable and accessible housing. AS WE DEMAND ............................. http://www.aarp.org/families/home_design/universaldesign/design_for_living.html
