Did anyone else read about this? On the Fourth of July, thieves stole homebuilding supplies and tools (mostly donated through Homes for Our Troops) from the building site of the home for Matt and Tracy Kiel. "The site is clearly marked as the newly built home for a veteran sponsored by the national organiation 'Homes for Our Troops'" (Hildner). Matt is an Iraq veteran who was paralyzed by a sniper shot on his second door of duty. You can read the full article here:

Since this has happened, Home Deport has offered to replace the tools that were stolen.

that pisses me off. i'm a nice guy, raised to turn the other cheek, etc, but i have no patience when people aren't respectful of veterans. we've gladly paid the price for our country, please have the decency to extend a bit of TLC when we come home.

kudos to home depot. i knew i liked that store.

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

    Emily and Nicholas

these guys ought to be shot(not necessarily killed).  I have no patience for someone who would do that. It makes me sooo mad that someone cannot respect the property of not only a vet but a combat vet who gaave up his lifestyle for us as a result of his service.  I am so glad to home depot for replacing the equipment when needed.  I am a non combat disabled vet,  I was navy and my dad navy with my sis coastie, service members and their families are very specical to me God Bless them all

I agree, people like that need to be shot... preferably with rock salt in the buttocks. I have no sympathy for thieves at all, and that the man the home was being built for being a veteran wounded in Iraq... well, that REALLY gets my dander up. Bless Home Depot. They are a great store. Everytime I've been there in my wheelchair, someone is always on hand nearby to help me if I need it. And they are always friendly, not surly like some chain stores I know.

Something tells me these thieves will be caught. Call it a hunch, but I really feel like they will.

This also gets my dander up! Nothing surprises me anymore. Some people are just real human garbage. Any veteran of any war should be treated with the upmost respect. They probably stole the tools to sell the metal. I've heard there's a lot of theft going around because the prices for metal are very high. It's too bad. I'm so glad to hear that Home Depot is going to help them! Makes me sad we are getting a Lowes instead of a HD!

Shimas, I like the rock salt idea. Sends a real good message, eh?

Nicholas, is your avatar from the Korean Memorial in DC? I have been to there and it looks like one of guys from that memorial. I really like that picture!

    Hi all

I really like the rock salt idea.  i also like the idea of (like it would actually happen) of getting them and then dropping them in the middle of bagdad.  Angry I love HD better than lowes too  but unfortunately our area is heavily lowes and our hd store is kinda wimpy.  hope you all have a good dayParadise  i dont know if any of looked at the webssite for the couple.  they are awsome, i wish there were more that i could do for them, they are great role models.

Rock salt stings going in, and since it melts when in tissue, it continues to melt and sting... for days.... feels a lot like when our nerves are trying to regenerate, you know? Only pain meds don't help much... and you can't really treat it surgically. (Doctor told me this once.)

Now I'm not one for cruel punishment, but in this case... <grin>
