    Hi,

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Type.  I am new here!  I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to look to talk get advice from women who have been pregnant with a physical disability.  I am not wheel chair bound at this point, just bracing and lots of resting.  I was also wondering if there is an EDS group  or phoenix/scottsdale group on here.  Thanks! Look forward to meeting you all.

Hey there Mary.  I cannot gel specifically with your condition but with pregnant and disability I certainly can.  I depends on what you would like help with.  I am now a bi-lateral above knee amputee, but had pregnancies and obviously births with my two youngest kids, now aged 4 and 5.  By the sixth month of pregnancy, I had to reside myself to the chair for the most part, but if I wanted to bathe in the upstairs bathroom or do jobs around the house, I still had to get there!  I used to take it turns to wear each leg and otherwise flop around on crutches...and yes I mean heavy and unbalanced up the stairs!!  It's all perfectly do-able but obviously it is particularly harder work than usual.  Hope this helps a little.  If there is anything else specific you would like to ask about, pre or post birth, please private message me or speak here and I will gladly help if I can.  Welcome to you anyhow.  This is a great forum and everyone helps everyone here.

Hi Mary! Welcome to Disaboom! I'm Kara and I have Ostoegenesis Imperfecta-I use a manual wheelchair and am working on finishing my Ph.D. right now. I'm really interested in parenting with physical disabilities (both biologically and through adoption) so I have a few resources you might be interested in checking out. First, have you seen "Through the Looking Glass"..if not, you should start there! You can also get some excellent personalized feedback if you're able to locate an open-minded gynecologist with experience working with women with disabilities. Does your disability have a foundation or a national headquarters? Many times they can make reccomendations...Good luck and I hope to see you around here again soon!
