In my previous blog on
meditation and prayer I offered some theological thoughts about the historical
and current similarities in the two activities, and how in most traditions, one
form or another is considered under the same umbrella of communion with Peace,
or a Higher Power, or God.
I removed this Post from a
Thread, and turned it into a blog, because dispute arose on the thread as to
whether just “anything” was prayer, and was it okay. This assurance, was
offered by an individual who admitted they had never been able to really
"meditate." While I don't really dispute this general concept,
as there are those who maintain that even thinking about God is a
prayer, I don't like the tone.Obviously, we can all think whatever we want on
this subject; and as far as I am concerned, the more thought, the better.
However, I am writing now to
say that I find this type of dialogue, although not under the auspices of the
Sanctuary, to be in violation of the rules for writing about faith and religion
on Disaboom.
The idea is to say, “I
PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT . . .” and not to diss someone else’s POV.
Admittedly, my writing is
dense, formal, and not everyone’s cup of tea. It is the product of three
years of intense theological study a Seminary in the US, Union Theological,
associated with Columbia University. It is also the product of having
been myself a certified physical yoga teacher for too many years to
count, with students still active all over the US, as well as a mental yoga
practitioner (and, by the way, they are not the same thing).
I don’t mind if someone
doesn’t agree with me, or understand my incomprehensible thoughts—it’s hard to
write about this stuff.
But to get SNARKY ABOUT
PRAYER? COME ON! !
I will, tangentially, be
offsite for a period for medical reasons, but I would like to leave behind a
plea for us all to remember the Golden Rule, in all of our threads:
“DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU
WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU,” please dear Lord.
Namaste (a common Hindi greeting meaning “I
honor the God in You.”} bonnie
