John Best, writer of a blog called "Hating Autism" and one of the reasons I do not use my real name on this blog, is at it again. I will not link to him from this blog, but his calling Ari Ne'eman a "psychopath" and "not really autistic" once again, and calling for Newsweek to not publish their interview with Ne'eman. In the past he has made death threats against Ne'eman, Amanda Baggs, and other autistic self-advocates.

Other people have already said most of what I want to say, so I have a simple question.

Imagine Best is the father of a quadriplegic child instead of an autistic one. If he had a blog called "Hating Paralysis" where he threatened the lives of paraplegics because they can use their arms, making them "not really disabled" in his mind.

Would he still get the positive attention he does? Would people step up to defend him? Or would he be sued for libel as soon as he started telling lies about Ron Kovic?

What a timely post! I somehow stumbled upon one of John's older posts today in which he wrote his Congressman about his "hate for autism"...I asked him the same question you raise here in a comment to the post. How can we HATE our condition without also hating the person attached to it? If there's anything at all that I HATE related to life with a disability-it's the ignorance of OTHER people and their response to me....that has affected my life far more negatively than the symptoms of my medical condition.
