Dear everyone,

I know I haven't written in a long time, but I have beeen too busy with many projects to spend time here. In news, I won Nanowrimo 20009 and made the semifinals of a poetry competition. I also learned about an activist poetry festival called Split this Rock. It's in March in Washington, D.C. and you should look it up if you're interested. Since I was last here, I have completed a 30 poem in 30 days project which raises money for the Center for New Americans, an immigrant center where I live. I have also attended ADAPT in Georgia. We did really well there and they actually hired a person to work on getting people out of nursing homes in Georgia. For those of you who know anything about Georgia, this is quite a feat. As most of the Georgian hierarchy would rather have us locked away forever. Sadly, my friend Bodie, who was never free for a moment in his adult life except when he came to ADAPT for a day, died before he could get out of a nursing home. There are some days I think the world is just evil. None of this was helped by the death of my longtime yardstick person, Karin DiNardi. By yardstick person, I mean the human being against whom you measured yourself and thought If I could be that good everything would be fine."There's a particular point in the discussion of this concept on season of Monk in the episode Mr. Monk goes to Mexico. I was not okay for a while after Karin died. I didn't, and for this I'm quite proud of myself, engage in any behavior which are contradictory to my existence.

The holidays went well and my knee is finally in a state of recovery. Even my wayward cousin behaved well. Perhaps you all remember last Christmas when he did not and I retreated into the room and wrote to you.

Well, I just wanted you all to know I am fine and I do hope to bee back here at least once a month in 2010. What's everybody been up to? I've been absent so long I want news.

Monday...

As you may know, if you've been reading my post, I've not been the healthiest person for the past several days. Yesterday, it all began to go away around 11am and was fully gone by 4pm. Of course, life didn't let me off the hook that easy. Right when I was feeling better, my PCA and I had some sort of miscommunication which I still don't know how it occurred and I thought she wanted off Tuesday but she wanted off yesterday. For awhile, I was convinced I was having early onset Alzheimer's or something but now I'm convinced i just misunderstood when the date was. Nothing tragic has to be happening. I'm human. We all make mistakes. Luckily, nothing terrible happened.

Tuesday...

I've decided to set the alarm for 9:40am every morning so hopefully I can sleep better. The only downside of this so far (and it's not that big of a deal) is that now I have to definitely schedule lunch into my daily plan. My body is very unequivocal. I either need to sleep more (which is not on the agenda) or feed it more. It's pretty easy to prepare a pretty healthy lunch quickly so I think I'm going with option two. Today I had a vegetable and egg omelet for breakfast and a peanut butter on wheat bread sandwich and mashed potatoes for lunch. Not bad. There's nothing truly horrible in that dietary plan. I also checked email and wrote a little bit. I'm disappointed. I was supposed to go to my women's writing group today but for the third time in a row it got canceled. This time it wasn't my fault. One of the ladies had to take care of her grandson. I'm glad that they called me before I took a van ride out to Amherst for no reason. I would have been upset because I was paying money to go there and nothing happened.

Wednesday...

Why is it my life to have two good days and then crash followed by two more good days and then crashing? I was doing really well on my sleep schedule but this morning I couldn't get up even though I slept the whole night without waking up once. I even went to bed earlier last night than I do normally. I should feel really great, but I don't. Maybe I overslept and my brain doesn't know what to do with all the extra sleep. Is that possible? I can't figure anything out. I just know I feel kind of dead.

I met with the lady from Stavros. She was very nice. Now I have a plan for what to do about errands. As the same person always runs them, if I have extra hours I will just pay them in advance and keep track of them on the computer. It's kind of stupid that the state makes you lie to it just to get what you need done. This is why the system needs to be smashed down and rebooted. In an ideal world, I think I should have control of my PCA money. There could be checkers like they have in New York or California. People in those states decide when they need care and how much they're willing to pay for that care as long as it doesn't violate laws, such as minimum wage, nobody really bothers them. I think I'm capable of figuring that out.

Thursday...

At first, I tried to be accommodating to a PCA who wanted to have a meeting with someone and needed to be late for her shift. I knew I'd be fine for an hour. But, then my other PCA who was supposed to get me up had to also leave a half an hour early even though I asked him about this and he said he could stay until 8am. We managed to get everything done by 7:30am so all was going well until I realized that I was sliding forward in my chair because I didn't have my foot rests on. I'm never doing that again. I don't care if someone's running late. Live and learn. I can manage without either seat belt or footrest but not both at once. Luckily, today I had my seatbelt or I would have been on the ground.

The van service didn't come until almost 10:45am. If I would have known that, I would have stayed in bed and told my assistant to go to her meeting and get me up when she got here at 9:15am. But, sometimes I think the van service doesn't know what it's talking about. I swear that speaking to them is a waste of oxygen.

I got to Springfield around 11:30am and had a half hour to wait before the Jobs with Justice event. The Jobs with Justice event I was attending started at noon. I stopped by CVS in Tower Square and found this killer outfit I'm actually going to buy. It's a really pretty rainbow colored silk top and a rainbow colored jean skirt in my size. Now, I love denim. I just don't own any because no denim is comfortable to sit in all day. However, this skirt looked pretty comfy to me. I'm always in the market for cool clothes to wear to politically motivated events. This will be great for those la-de-da LGBT events I sometimes get invited to. Apparently, you can look classy and wear rainbows at the same time. Yay! The shop keeper even made the outfit herself so no little children were harmed in its production. This will be my first item ever of actual fair trade clothing in my size. Many readers will remember that I've been waiting years for that. Also, the lady had a sign outside her store advertising an independent book festival in Springfield next Saturday. If I hadn't gone in that store, I would not have learned about this opportunity. I'm calling about it tomorrow or seen my really cool outfit. I know it sounds vain but maybe that's the way things were meant to work out. If I had gotten there right at noon, I would have had to rush around and just go do activism right away instead of having time to kill.

The healthcare event was very small. There were about a dozen counter protesters and then there was the billionaires. For those of you who don't know, the billionaires started out when Steve Forbes was running for president. They're actually a bunch of activists who get dressed up in fancy clothes and pretend to be for things like capitalism, an end to Medicare and other social programs, global warming skeptics, and whatever other horrible things the right has put out this week.

Friday...

I went to the mall. I spent about $250. I brought tons of new linen to hopefully end my pink eye battle. I got a DVD player for $42 bucks. I couldn't find a cowboy hat and if your portraying Justin Dart you have to have a cowboy hat. I just brought a crazy orange mask that matched my chair. I had a few ideas. From playing this weird ghost mixture of Mary Frances and Justin, but that didn't seem appropriate to wear to an able-bodied person party. Finally I decided to play Rep. Ritchie Neal's conscious. Not that I think they man has one. He lies on universal health care and is only a Community Choice Act sponsor because folks have bothered him endlessly.

The party was fun. I was one of three dressed up adults. The other fully dressed person was my friend Betty who I do organizing with, was dressed a naughty bunny, I saw a friend there and one of her sons who I knew when he was a baby. Now he's 9, Big Boy!

I went to the bathroom. There was no grab bar, so a strange man had to help me even though they told Betty it was wheelchair accessible. If I know her- and I do- she's going to chew somebody's butt Monday. Betty is like my friend Anita, you couldn't pay me enough money to piss off either woman at least not for under six figures.

Prompt #76 in my 100 poems in 100 days is completed and crossed out. I'll see if I still feel as good about this challenge when it gets to day 80. I also changed my Facebook status to remind other local nanowrimo participants that our kick-off dinner is tomorrow at 6pm at the Route 9 diner. I'm not sure if anyone is coming, but I know I promised to organize it. Whatever will be will be. Tomorrow, all four of my challenges will be going at once. Can anyone say "crazy bitch is a possibility." Happy real Halloween!

Starting tomorrow, I must complete two poems, 1,766 words of fiction a day, and a short story every week for 12 weeks. This is in addition to my agreed upon responsibilities to Examiner.com of 3 articles per week and any posting here, Mylot, or Blogit.

I know more about ferrets than I ever wanted to know. I wrote 1,500 words about them in 3 articles, They hide in drains and showers. Too much work for me. I barely have enough patience for my cat.

Accepted crappy 80 cent per article job. It pays twice a week. Debt repayment is debt repayment. I can't turn down money.

Thursday...

New job making me nervous. It's very into plagiarism. I've decided that I will only write original material. No rewriting for them. You can't rebuild your reputation once it's ruined. Also in sad news, my friend Andre Gaines died. Good bye and I'll miss you my friend.

Friday...

Sick... missed Stavros appointment... Slept until 1:30. I wrote on costumes for PWD's I'm rather proud of it. At least I got my editor off my ass. Hopefully, tommorrow I'll be well enough to go to rehersal.

Saturday...

No rehersal. Still sick. Watched gymnastics instead. I know a lot about that sport. As per usual, Rebecca Bross choked and it was Bridget Sloan to the rescue. If I were an Olympic coach, I'd bet on Sloan not Bross in a pinch.

Arrived. Shaniek went to new person meeting. I opted not to sell my books. I'm to busy here already with activism and writing. I can do without the few bucks. I'll earn. Good time, Good food at picnic.

Monday...

ADAPT takes on Governor Sonny Purdue. We invaded his office, which is in a museum of sorts. Don't ask me why. There were Southern flags and stuff. It was way creepy. The security guards kept saying they didn't want to arrest any disabled people. Then we all started chanting. “I'd rather go to jail than die in a nursing home.”

What they finally did was wheel us out to the rain and leave there like garbage without a word. I wasn't sure if were under arrest or what. So we simply joined the rest of ADAPT blockading other doors. My door blocking partner was this cool chick named Jo Jo from Texas. She'd totally be my type if she weren't hetero. Why can I never find anyone male or female you likes vaginas?

Tuesday...

We did two hits today. The local HHS, followed by HUD. We got meetings out of both. I went to dinner with Jo Jo and David. I had my portrait drawn by Lois of the Olmstead Decision. I'm going to laminate it. I'm pissed because CNN lied about home care. The said it was more expensive than nursing homes. I am so irate.

Wednesday...

We protested CNN today. The rent-a-cops who worked at the mall to which CNN was attached were absolutely horrible beings. One of them made a child ADAPT member cry. We got a meeting at CNN, as well. Then we went to support the people who were having the meeting at HHS. The eight people who were designated negotiators were the only ones allowed in the building. However, the 400 or so of us surrounded the building. Afterwards, we had a final big meeting and a dance.

Thursday...

Went home. Missed flight. Missed everything. Finally got home around midnight thsnks to American Medical Response.

Friday....

I am cold, I'm tired, I'm achy. I don't what's happening to me , but it can't be good. I wonder if my body is exacting revenge on me for having it stay awake for 72 hours to write a novel, which at the end of 3 day Novel Contest I enter I won't do again. But somehow I forget that every July and sign myself up for that Hell again.

Monday...

Doctors appointment equals more painkillers and no pink eye. Cell phone died, after van service closed for the day. I'll bus it to the phone store.

Tuesday...

I took no pain killers since my 5-9 PCA shift and my knee feels normal. I have been waiting for this day for 5 months. I'm overjoyed. Let's hope it lasts. I met with Elana. We decided to continue our poetry project, each of us made compromises. But each of us can live with what we agreed to.

Then Beth and I took the bus to the mall. I got a new smart chip and we hoped a bus back to Amherst. We made the bus back to Belchertown with about one minute to spare. Good thing oe we would have been stuck in Amherst for 2 extra hours.

Horribly sad about the Yale murder. Why would anyone kill such a promising person (she was doing cancer and AIDS research), who was going to get married? I wonder if this was some stalker thing. I'm sorry for her family friends, and fiancée.

In bed freezing. Canceled trip to movies. I just don't get this. Applied for a blogging job at change.org. They are seeking a disability rights blogger. Thanks to Steve from informing me.

Really need to fire a PCA. She's using other people to lie to me. Unappreciated much! First day of new sleeping regime. I'm going to try to get up by 9:45 AM, each accept in an emergency. So far, so good.

I'm fine at the National Alliance of Media and Culture (NAMAC) conference. It's good. Got lots of good grant ideas. Planning a killer project with Robyn (she gets surgery, I get famous before death). I already wrote one poem in rough draft form. I'm very spastic today (would've fallen off the toilet if Robyn hadn't been with me). Knee better. Need to call mom and ask for more money. Hate it, but Boston's exprnsive!

I got up really early today because I had miscommunication with one of my assistants.She was suppose to take a extra shift as it was Robyn's birthday but I asked her two weeks ago and forgot to remind her. Being human she forgot so my night person got m out of bed before she left. I was in my chair typing by 9am now its nearly noon. I have done some work this morning and I am pretty proud of myself but I am also pretty tired. I stayed up until 3am watching Bee Movie which is deeper then most people think.

So I had about five hours of sleep. I am trying not to take a nap because I figure getting up early will do me some good maybe it will allow me to finish Novel planning and get some work done. I already posted about 11 different discussions on various websites.

Monday...

It's seven o'clock at night, and i haven't taken any pain pills. I just got off the phone with the person from NAMAC, the conference I want to go to where rich people give money to artists. They don't say that of course but that's what it is. Normally, I wouldn't go in for such a thing because I feel like I'm being auctioned but I have a lot of art debt to repay and unless someone with money helps me out I'm not going to repay it. Never mind that I need to buy a laptop, get some professional artist appropriate wear, and it'd be nice to actually pay my own bills for once. I

Tomorrow, I'm going to the chair repair and the orthopedist, I forgot to schedule the van to go to Springfield but then thought that that was okay because it means I can post and make a little more money. Also, it's hotter than hell here. Well, not quite hell but pretty close. Maybe Hell's suburbs. I don't mind heat as long as I don't have to move in it.

Bad knee day. I hired one person (potentially two people as I'll need another one as Robyn's going back to school) plus Celina said she can work a couple of nights for me. I also hired a typist. Her name is Nancy. We did a practice run. She did well.

Monday...

I'm watching this really weird documentary about a girl who never grew intellectually or in stature. She's sixteen but looks about two or possibly three. That must be a very weird disability to have. I wonder if she knows she's 16. She can't talk at all or communicate. That must be really frustrating.

Tuesday...

The second thing I'm having issues with is you know how I told you I thought my assistant hadn't gone to the ER. Well, it turns out that she did or at least she has a note that she did. I don't know how you would fake an ER note, but I guess all things are possible. I have seen ER notes. I've had ER notes. It looks the same to me. So now I don't know what to do. I don't want to dismiss someone who was legitimately sick and had to go to the ER, but I'm annoyed that she didn't call me so I could get someone else to get me up that morning and not screw up my whole day which it did. I also like the new woman I've hired.

Wesnesday...

Spent lots of time working on my three day novel planning. The book is about disabled dykes and gender non-conforming people. I have a list of scenes. I'm so ready for this. I've emailed three more people with questions. Found an article about a mixed ability status relationship between a person with Down syndrome and one without. It's guy/girl not girl/guy. like my story.

Sarah and I had pizza and dessert in Northampton, at two different places. We talked writing mostly. I showed her my outline and she talked about an article she's writing for a Quaker Magazine called Different Takes.

Thursday...

Went to poetry group. I had two poems for critique. Both went over well. Even though one was a bi poem and almost all the members of my group are straight. I'm gearing up for this big poety competition, judged by my childhood idol poet. You can submit up to three- a have a disability poem, a queer poem, and a poem about poetry.

I opted to re-hire Demi, as a fill for now. We'll see if she can rise to the occasion. I hope she can. For some reason, I have faith in the girl. I hope it's warranted.

New woman started nightshift. Seems nice. Strong!

Saturday...

Tina's (new woman) second night. We did all of her paperwork. I went to lunch with Robyn and Kier for their birthday. I came home, wrote (of course), watched a silly movie, and then some gymnastics.

Gave workshop at Confluence. Chair control fell off. Stuck in bathroom (alone) for one hour. My PCA has issues with Native American belief systems. I'm so not getting involved in that conversation.

Monday...

Home. Sadly found wheelchair toilet as we were leaving. Ate McDonald's. Chair need of repair.

Made appointment for Wednesday. Flea bombed, bathed Richard in flea shampoo. Decide to keep Demi on.

Tuesday...

More flea bombs. I have mutant fleas that don't die.

Wednesday...

Demi was ill. So I let her go home a while, but made promise to be back at 7:00 to get me up. She never came back. Missed chair appointment. I've decided I'm done with her. It's just too much drama. She came back and said needed to go to the ER, which is why she couldn't come get me up or even notify me. Says that she has Lyme disease. I don't believe her. I told her to bring over the ER paperwork. She didn't. Jen filling in tonight.

Thursday...

Interviewed a new PCA and wrote on a bunch of sites. Used flea powder. Made Richard a vet appointment.

Friday....

I must remember not to schedule vet and chair appointments in the same day. The vet ran long, so I needed to reschedule the chair call. They were not happy.

Saturday...

Really miserable, sore knee, broken heart, missing cat (later found inside my house; God knows where he was hiding). Pot's supposed ti be a good painkiller. I'm just saying.

Supposed to have coffee, but too tired. I'm going to write a book of essays called The Gimp Essays, about me and disability.

Tuesday...

It's only Tuesday and it's already a long week. Last week didn't end apparently. The police don't know who took my ATM card although they're bothering everyone who works for me. At least the new chair is low enough to get in. Discovered that assistant took ATM because she had no fod to feed her kid. Wish she would've just told me. I'd have helped.

Wednesday...

Went to police. Told them I didn't want to press charges. Chair broke again! Damn thing!

Wednesday...

Laura came to stay with me tonight, as my misguided assistant is taking off until Sunday to get her head on straight and make sure she never does this again (as I've opted to give her another chance). We talked and watched some food shows.

I need to go to Fonda, NY for a speech next weekend. Jen says she'll drive Elana and I if I rent a van.

Thursday...

Called MassHealth about getting a new chair that doesn't always break (it's a long process, but doable). I also called Motion Automotive about renting a van for next weekend. I didn't get anyone at the rental place.

Friday...

Sharisa (hospitalized friend) is home!! I went to an ADA celebration picnic today. I had a good time dancing with friends and eating yummy picnic food. Tony (from Boston) and I made up. He said his receptionist never told him I called a working on the newsletter!! He said he'd call me about it in two weeks. Yay, a job!

My evening assistant came and I stretched. Then my day assistant come back to spend the night with me, not a very happy person. We had a good talk about the fact that she was feeling overused. I'm sorry for that.

Saturday...

Couldn't sleep! I was so hot. I finally fell asleep around 8:00 and slept until 12:30. Then my computer crashed in an ugly way and my evening assistant fixed it by killing everything, and downloading a new operating system. Now I'm happily typing and listening to an audiobook.

Made brownies (actually Jen made) and took to Queer People of Color meeting. They were very popular. Submitted stuff to my friend Sharisa’s new magazine.

Sharisa is hospital ill. I went to an awesome open mic with mostly brown folks reading, it was very cathartic. Went to therapy. Happily, don’t need another appointment. Still need to keep up with my stretches. Someone used my ATM card (which just arrived yesterday) at 6:47 in the morning

Thursday…

Was tired, tired, tired today. Missed writing group. But, of course, felt better after I canceled the van. So I opted to walk to the farmer’s market. I needed cash, so I walked to store and tried to use my card (not realizing the bank had deactivated it). Embarrassing!

Friday…

Wrote a lot… Demi worked the overnight… I have been blogging about Danieal Kelly (the starved to death 14 year old with Cerebral Palsy from Philadelphia) a lot. Poor child! It seems like people are getting off really easy- probation and service. To read the blogs go to disablityrights.today.com

Bad me didn’t do any stretches today. I had a Green Party meeting. Then I had a “parent visit”. They were going to a casino in Connecticut and stopped by to visit me in Massachusetts. We went to dinner, I had pizza and soup. I was still full from having a big lunch at the Green Party. I took four container of stuff home with me. Pizza, salad, chicken parm, garlic bread with cheese. I am still deeply worried about my friend Sharisa (who is still hospitalized). At least she seems to be doing better.

Tomorrow is my first extraction. I’m liberating my friend Dre[1] from a bad situation in Tennessee. His bus leaves at 5:10 PM. Demi is back; I’m glad.

Monday…

Dre caught the bus. Got money. I’m worried about no meeter in Atlanta, as people tell me it’s unsavory. But I’m going to tell him to just sit my security.

Tuesday…

Very early… Dre lost his ticket, freaked, and called his nutty mama to come get him. I offered to replace his bus ticket, but it was a no go. I e-mail his other meeters so they would know not to come meet him. I cried, all this work and no Dre!

Later…

I was trying to nap and Dre’s mama called. That woman is flat out crazy, excused me of being a sex criminal (who wanted to kidnap her son for x-rated purposes) and told me not to talk to him again. Like that’s going to happen, I’m not going to abandon my friend because his overprotective, weird AB mama said to. My gimp loyalty is too strong.

Wednesday…

Had therapy. Knee is bending more regularly. It hurts, but I can get it into normal position. I am shaking when I stand up, but I can do it.

Thursday…

Had emotional therapy. Shelley was good at helping me deal with my guilt over Dre; I feel like I failed him, although going back was his choice. Went to poetry group. Good for me. Of course, Dre called to check in when I had considered myself out duty for the first time in 3 days. I told him to call by Sunday or I would send people to retrieve.

I slept late today, was supposed to go to Atkins Farms, but wasn’t up to it as I didn’t sleep well last night. Jen made brownies for me to take to the Queer People of color meeting, but then when she realized that it was Tuesday she said she’d bake a new batch. Sunday…

ER at 5AM. Knee locked; wouldn’t unbend. Called 911. Given serious painkiller shot. Ultrasound. Nothing found. Home 11:30 AM on orders to take pain killers every 4 hours, plus to Aleve (2 pills, twice day until I see the orthopedist). Missed my friend Jeff’s rememberance service (he died 5 years ago) Damn knee!

Monday…

Got up and was writing. At least I wasn’t stuck in bed all day.

Tuesday…

Had therapy. It’s so convenient that she comes to my house now. No waiting or paying van service fees.

Wednesday…

Got my period; first time in 5 months. Guess I’m not infertile after all. Bleeding heavy took pills to decrease.

Thursday…

Added 2 pages to Dickens.. Go me. Ordered some other people’s versions to help me bring it along.

Friday…

Saw doctor. Got more pain pills. She’s leaving. I need to find a new MD again.

Saturday…

Worked all day. Up at 10AM. Went to library to pick up ordered Dickens and joined the summer reading program while I was there. I’m mad them for getting rid of my favorite book category “reread your favorite book from childhood” and replaced it with self-help instead. Wrote lots of poems this week, including a two new ones today. Read them here. Comment please.

Hi y'all. i just wanted to let you know I'm fine, and that I found a place in New York. Two places, actually, but that's a longer story than I have time to post. I'll tell you all about it, when I get home, which should be June the eighth, as long as no bus mess-ups occur. Love much, and I'm very excited to hear every thing exciting and hopefully positive that has happened in the world of Disaboom since I've been away.

I was so proud of myself for being ready for book expo early, but as always, something happened. I am supposed to go to Book Expo America (writing event), but my house host had an emergency. I need to arrive Wednesday (5/27) and then will get out of your hair on june 5, by noon (at the latest). If you have a non step house and ideally a wheelchair accesible bathroom and don't mind my assistant and me, let me know. Much appreciated... Please google Martina Robinson for details of me. I can pay a little and you don't need to feed us.
