 "Give Peas a Chance"

Now, I'm as fond of puns as the next person, don't get me wrong, but apparently a group in New York City is holding a Veggie Pride Parade.

You read that right folks, a parade, through the meatpacking district (of course) to promote vegetarianism and veganism.

That's fine and well. I don't have a problem with that. But how much money are they all wasting on this parade, on costumes and permit fees, etc. that they could be using in a better way to promote their cause? Instead, they're becoming the punchline to a joke.

I mean, they'll really offend people with the cross-species marriage of Penelo Pea Pod and Chris P. Carrot, won't they? Stick out tongue

I'm for humor and clever marketing as much as the next person. But sometimes I think people go from clever to silly without even realizing they're doing it and then they hurt more than help their cause.

I wonder what the ROI will be on that parade, do you think anyone would make a decision about vegetarianism based off of a parade?  I'm not sure I do.

I don't know, I can see the value. It can be hard to tell people that you are a vegetarian. There is a lot of teasing and people trying to force meat on you. I tried vegetarianism briefly and couldn't give up meat :( but I was veggie long enough to know that there is some value in gathering with other vegetarians to be in a supportive place free from "Here, have some bacon!"

(Now though, "Here have some bacon" is TOTALLY welcome!)

Aw, looks like it was held yesterday.  ;(  And I was gonna slather myself in beef gravy and cold cuts then head on down for some fun.

    Tim - Exactly. I wouldn't.

Saydrah - I don't have a problem with vegetarians or vegans (here, have some bacon! *LOL*). I say live and let live. I don't like it when they get in my face like rabid religious fanatics trying to convert me though. (Not saying the parade did that, but saying I've met some vegans who just about crucified me for eating a hamburger.)

SteveSki - Darn! I would have put out a lawn chair and watched that! *LOL* :)
