The kindergarten teacher who prompted her students to vote an autistic child out of the class has been suspended for one year without pay, and her tenure has been revoked.
Wendy Portillo, who called a vote among her students in May to decide whether five-year-old Alex Barton could stay in the class, has not commented on the matter, but her lawyer says they plan to contest the decision. Portillo was transferred to another school shortly after the incident, but Barton's mother argues that she should have been fired on the spot.
What the Disabled Politico finds amazing is that it took almost six months for the school board to come to this decision.
