About Me

I've had spina bifida from birth but began using a wheelchair as an adult. This event triggered a political and emotional reaction--why was I suddenly treated as less than a person? While I was involved in political issues before that, I became very involved in disability rights at that point. I have made wonderful friends in the disability movement, worked in independent living, and now work in health promotion research for people with disabilities. I often lecture and present on disability rights and health for people with disabilities. I love life, my husband, family, friends, pets--and I try to create a world where everyone's unique contributions and talents are recognized. I am Unitarian, grew up on the east coast and love being near the water--not easy to accomplish in Kansas!
