    Hi nene,

Welcome to Disaboom. I have MS and a broken leg with a cast all the way up my thigh. I'm bed bound and I have swelling in my feet and elsewhere. Yes, it can certainly have to do with our kidneys. It can be vascular disease, PAD, it can be too much salt and I'm sure many other things. I have a tendency toward high blood pressure. They tried to put me on medication for it, but I read that drinking at least 8 full glasses of water a day could lower your blood pressure. I tried it and it worked! I know this has done wonders for others too. This is great for our kidneys and they love it because it helps them work easier. I take some meds that could be hard on the liver (a larger version of a kidney) and my kidneys. Drinking large amounts of water means frequent trips to the bathroom, bedside commode, or bed-pan, but it's well worth it!  When I slack, up my BP goes and more swelling (edema) happens. If you poke the swelling with your finger and a pit stays there, see a doctor, or urologist immediately! Pitting edema is nothing to ignore! Otherwise, try increasing your water (not other liquids, or even juice!) and put your feet up to heart level and see if it helps. BTW coffee and tea (colas too) are diuretics. They will actually draw moisture out of your cells. Pure clean water is the ticket! Good luck!

I have problem with one swollen foot, I use a support stocking or compression stocking. It  keeps the swelling down but it's a little difficult to put on.

Hi, you might have to look at your RX medications to see if they may be the cause.

Keep your feet up , but not as high as your heart  or over.

Hi Nene......another welcome to disaboom. I don't think you can beat the advice of Pambe.......so I won't repeat it for the sake of using words. The only other thing I could add......would be the suggestion bout meds. When I was put on Lyrica.......a dose of 150 mg........made both my feet swell......with pitting edema. I reduced the dose to 100 mg/day.......and the edema disappeared. So.....meds can do it. But, all in all......if you follow Pam's advice.....I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't go away.........good luck with it and again......welcome.........peace and love.....Norma

    Hello,

I have worn  KAFO's my whole life.I'm in a power wheelchair full time. can't walk but if I don't wear my braces my joints pull a part. swelling has always been a problem for me. it helps when you lay down to have your legs elevated on a pillow. make sure you don't have high blood pressure, it can cause you to have water weight. but the Doctor will give you something for that.

so do you walk at all?  if so it may be to much for you, and may need anti inflammatory , and to elevate your legs.

that is about all I have for you. hopefully something will help relieve the  swelling..

    good luck,  & take care
