While it comes as no surprise that an extremist Teabagger like newly elected GOP Senate candidate for Kentucky, Rand Paul, would like to see the Americans with Disabilities Act abolished, I’m still a bit shocked that he’d actually share such an evil cockamamie idea. But I guess he’s only out to impress fellow Teabaggers, and I’m sure many jumped for joy when they heard about his it. Afterall, it’s an unnecessary, money-sucking law that rich, white able-bodied men across the country have been hatin’ on since it was passed in 1990. Right? *rolls eyes*

Now why do you want to abolish the most important law to ever be passed for Americans with disabilities, Mr. Paul? Why would you seek to get rid of a law that’s helped millions of Americans feel equal to their able-bodied counterparts, enabling them to go out and shop, dine, and work just like everyone else? Simple. Paul says it’s because the ADA is unfair “to the business owner,” since the law requires a variety of accessible stipulations to be met in order for them to be in business.

Listen up, Rand. I know installing an accessible bathroom and an up-to-code ramp for many small business owners is way out of their budget, but hell….if you leave it up to local governments to decide if “disabled individuals deserve rights,” as you’d like to see done, do you honestly think many places would continue making their places accessible? What would happen to people like me who actually need this law and have been depending on it for years? I know this isn’t a concern of yours…you have a body that works. But come on, you’re a doctor (an Ophthalmologist no less), so you should know a thing or two about the frailty of the human condition.

Oh and btw - disabled individuals ALWAYS deserve rights. Why does this even need to be said?

The best way to make sure that Rand Paul's extremist views don't become mainstream is to support the guy who is running to defeat him I just donated 10 buck onllne at http://jackconway.org/

I am a T8 paraplegic business owner in California. If Rand Paul had to spend one week in a wheelchair he would understand why the ADA is so important. I don't "demand" accessibility, I simply don't spend my money at places that can't accommodate me, but I sure make sure that my business is accessible!

Not only is Rand Paul a doctor, I'll bet that a good deal of his income comes from those hated feds, via Medicare. And of course your post came a day or two before he took on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. So we all know what mentality we're dealing with,

If these issues could be handled locally they would be, yet I have been turned away from interviews due to issues with staircases and wary employers. While I appreciate the concept and do believe in libertarian views in a lot of regards, private business or small business owners have yet to prove to me they are willing or capable of handling any issues that may arise with a disabled employee. I was interviewed for a position and hired for a call center a few years ago. At this company, the building I was interviewed at was not wheelchair accessible, yet the Interviewer was kind enough to come outside and speak to me, and hire me on the spot as well, the only condition to the hire was that I work at a separate, accessible building, 20+ further miles away. While this solution may be acceptable to Rand Paul, eventually, the additional hour a day in commute time got to me and I was no longer able to maintain gainful employment and returned to collecting Disability. In the end, in order for libertarian party to truly be successful in the USA, it would require the vast majority of people to be good intentioned and pure of heart, alas, that will never be the case when it comes to private business or the profit margins in a company. Also to be noted, the Libertarian party is to often seen as just the Tea Partyers. This is not the case, the tea party members are generally just the most outspoken, 'radical' members of what is really the most common sense party currently here in America. Realistically, no different in concept, the the religous right and ultra liberal left.

Hopefully somebody assassinates this guy. That's all I've got to say. First paralyze his ass and then kill him.
