I want to know because honestly (and this isn’t sarcasm), I can’t decide. If you watch this video you’ll see he was out of his wheelchair and plopped on the pavement outside his apartment when the incident occurred. Did I mention he has no legs? And probably more important to note, no prosthetics either? Anyways, check out the video of him recounting his experience and see what you think.
The bitchy/cynical side of me thinks George Williams, 40 years old and from Merced, Cali, is lying about not trying to physically assault the cop (the video can be disputed as to what his true intentions were), and so the cops had good reason to shock his ass. And anyways, a lot of guys with un-useable or no legs whatsoever can have some of the strongest upper-bodies ever. He could’ve been a squirmer.
And more importantly, we live in an equal opportunity world. The handicapped don’t want special treatment afterall, right? :p
And then of course the good-hearted/sympathetic side of me believes the cop was definitely out of line for tasering a man; a man who is pretty harmless without a weapon - no matter his intentions - which was surely the case.
And btw, if the man’s story is true, wow, insanely awful. The police tasered him MULTIPLE times (holy hell. How overwhelming can a legless man be w/o his wheelchair, Merced Police?), and kept him half naked (with his genitals showing) in plain site of his all of his neighbors for hours. What is this? Nazi Germany? Harass the crippled because it’s easy and fills your quota?
As I’m writing this I’m actually getting more pissed off. You definitely gotta watch the video. It’s raw and fascinating. Sure, domestics (the situation here) sometimes need to be relegated to the police, but tasering a double amputee? Seems like a scene from Super Troopers if you ask me, and that’s not a compliment.
