I have seen the problems firsthand, working 25 years in healthcare. What do you think Medicare will be like when they take 500 BILLION out of it over 10 years to pay for their reforms?

We already pay more for healthcare than any other nation, the problem is we aren't getting our money's worth. We can fix the system. I personally don't believe insurance companies should be in the healthcare business. Let them do auto, home and life insurance. Controlling healthcare is too close to playing God, deciding who is approved and who is denied. I also think HMO's should be abolished. Nobody should profit by giving less care and services to sick Americans.

The last issue I'd like to mention is healthcare for illegal aliens. In a perfect world we'd have enough money to give free healthcare to the entire world. In reality, we only have so much money to provide healthcare to Americans and those here legally. History has shown that any system can be abused. How does rewarding illegal aliens with free benefits encourage them to obey our laws? If amnesty is forced on Americans and free healthcare provided, we'll have millions more breaking our laws to get here. They currently get free healthcare from our ER's. This is bankrupting hospitals and forcing them to close. More than 80 have closed in California alone. Give them emergency medical care if it's life threatening or contagious, otherwise treatment should be cash on demand for services rendered. Just my humble opinion on the issue.

Re: Why reform? There's a lot of fixing that needs to be done. One that may make a difference is for the larger companies or government jobs that offer so many choices in the line of insurance companies to pick and choose from, actually reduces the benefits for the policy holder. A limit should be placed on the insurance companies. There are too many greedy insurance companies wanting a piece of the pie. Leaving you with less. It's like a food fight. Wasted food is a sinful crime. The only mouths that are being feed is theirs. They leave you digging for crumbs. As the vulture watches you get weaker and weaker. Kicking out children who still live at home with you but have come to the ripe age of 22. Like it's their decision, not the parents, to kick them to the curb and let them suffer. Healthy and strong. Would cost my daughter 800.00 a month to maintain the same coverage that she had before she turned 22.

My concern is with the underinsured, seldom mentioned in this debate, who in the face of high premiums opt for high deductibles -- and as often as not forgo medical care until their conditions become dire and exorbitantly expensive both. I'm thinking that without a public option, we would be mandating more people into just this kind of underinsurance. On the other hand, with a public option hopefully we will be addressing the root cause of this cycle: out of control medical inflation, which results in the ever-increasing premiums. Thank you for writing, and getting me to think!

Re: Why reform? Second, I agree with the Medicare-like plan, however, health care reform should start from cutting medicine costs and imposing more laws to health care providers of how much they can charge consumers, more laws on quality care. There should be laws on health care professionals salary range. It is very sad that we paid so much for their services yet most of us receive little care, misdiagnosis, malpractice, fraud services in return.

Re: Help me make it through the night

Take the ribbon from my hair, Shake it loose and let it fall,

Iwent to Columbus there they found TWO BAD DISK took a diskogram both went off with a bang. Then I saw dr Currolo he tells me that only had a report of one. They do surgey and telll my wife the other disk looks bad and will probably have to have another surgey. Finnaly after 8 mo of grueling therapy they send me to Lyola univ. they took pic. and told me the disk they fixed was herniated. So back to columbus I go. They tell me Ineed surgey I got mad and told them to give me a referal I am not your ins. whore. And that is where I made my biggest mistake of my life. For I went and seen a dr my dad was seeing. There he did a diskogram and he missed and shot die up my subdural space and fire shot through me like a cutting torch stuck in my rectum. The next day I had cobbwebs hanging from me bobwire all over my body my skull was so mashed I could not see my whole body was on fire like I had rsds throughout my whole body. Iwent to Joliet LYOULA Mayo Northwestern Chicago univ southern univ columbus and several twice after 8 yrs I saw a dr Fred geisler he went over me and said no then my wife who had been fighting a bad joint in her neck and a open lesion in her cord got surgery from him after fighting dr and ins co. when she went back to see him she begged him to take another look at me and he found it with a diskogram which I swore i would never take this test again. during these 8 yrs i had tripple bypass 2 stints 2 mini strokes sleep apnea. Finnaly the surgeon got tired of the games kankakee dr were playing. He gave me a heart stint on fri. and operated on mon for 9 hrs. now i can walk. The best part is yet to come. I see this phsycologist for 3 yrs he tells me to settle down jesus christ would forgive this so I get fed up with his coverup for the locall drs. I MOVE TO tENN WHERE i get tied up with some idiot that has no control over const. Ther i am building a front deck I fall off the deck hit a concrete footer broke my wrist in two places busted up my shoulders

Re: 50

Thank you for saying that. This age thing I am like 50/50 on it. Almost like is the glass half empty or half full. With that thought ... you can only hope you have one hell of a tall glass ... of water. Which brings to mind "Steve". AKA Tall Drink of Water. He was refreshing to this Indian Chief. That's how I took it. That's the way he was. No doubt. No doubt we had a good laugh and that is always refreshing. Least we not forget the consumption of lemonade and vodka on a hot summer night. Anyways this thing about seeing "Steve" on the train. We never made eye contact. He just stood there and looked straight ahead. I almost wanted to yell out HEY but couldn't. There was a reason God placed that man on that train at that moment and time. I wish I knew the stop he got off at. I think it was just a few stops before the Naperville stop. May sound nuts, I know, but I think it was some kind of sign or direction for your brother. Like where he should live. I don't know, but that thought came to me. So I have to share it, give it to you, cause I am having a hard time with it. Why?

So much so he requested me to work on him whenever he came in for his orthdontic appointments. He was kinda weird, but I played along with him. I kidded amongst my co workers that one day when he grows up he may just stalk me or kill me or something. Whos knows these days. Some kids not only say the darnest things but do them too. Ya never know.

Anyways one day he tells me I smell like his grandmother! Grandmother? Now how am I to take that one? I was dying, laughing so hard .... I could hardly breathe. LMAO
