I have quoted you here. I love that comment. It is a piece of good advice for all parents.....Your comments about Safe Haven are excellent. Our society needs to prepare to provide for appropriate, least restrictive places. There is much work that remains to be done. I had never heard of it either. Val is right in that this is another malady that....." doesn't show ".........thereby it gets included with the many others .....like......fibromyalgia........pain...etc. etc. When you have to keep describing yourself.....or worse.....defending yourself........it sure does get old fast ! Thanks for helping us understand what you go through with.......face blindness. I sometimes have trouble recognizing people`s voices over the telephone. They usually tend to be people I dont see or speak to frequently.
When I was a boy, my mother stressed the importance of introducing yourself when you call on the phone. In my case it would be something like: Hi, this ollie, how are you Joe?
Some people just assume you will recognize their voices and will take offense if you ask them who they are.Now that we have caller ID, this is no longer a problem. If the caller ID reads UNKNOWN CALLER or NAME BLOCKED, we do not answer the caller. The answering machine is set to ANNOUNCE ONLY and they get an electronic voice that states" No one is available to take your call " then hangs up without letting them leave a message. This approach tends to discourage telemarketers. ollie

A Third of Children Diagnosed as Autistic in the US Take Celexa-- New Study Finds It's Less Effective Than a Placebo

Approximately one third of Autistic children in the United States take the anti-depressant citalopram

Re: Is tone deafness acceptable? I am not familiar with face blindness. You describe it very well. I guess it's like people understanding (not) an invisible disability such as chronic pain. Face blindness is invisible to those tho just don't understand. It is frustrating to help them "get it"....it must be difficult to remain patient with them. I know it is for those of us who suffer with chronic pain. People can't "get" what they can't see.

Re: Daniel Hauser and the rights of patients

As someone who had to leave the country to get the treatment I needed, which was not sanctioned by the AMA, and therefore not legal if used to replace "standard" practice, I agree with the intent of this Post.
