Blogging 101: The Blogging Basics

"Ok, I now know how to write a blog post and how to add a photo, but what do I write about," you ask.

Fantastic question!

The first rule about writing is: Write about what you know. Write about yourself, your kids, your pets, your favourite hobby.

Writing need not be lengthy, meticulously-formed paragraphs. Lists can make interesting posts too; for example, 7 Things That My Mornings Easier and 5 Lessons I've Learned from Mom. You might list:

  • Places you have lived or traveled to
  • Lessons learned from your disability
  • Your accomplishments
  • Your plans for the summer
  • Your to-do list for the weekend
  • Things you would like to learn
  • And the list goes on!

Sometimes sharing a photo with a few words are all that are needed to share a thought, a story or an idea. In fact, many bloggers, like my Australian blogger friend Des, participate in Wordless Wednesday.

Here are a few more ideas to get you blogging:

  • What is your earliest childhood memory?
  • What is your proudest moment?
  • When were you most terrified?
  • What is your wildest dream?
  • What your plans for the summer?
  • What is your favourite song and why?
  • Who do you most admire?
  • What gets you really mad, happy or sad?
  • What would you like the world to know about you or someone you love?

Once you start, ideas will begin flowing. Keep at it and you will soon find your blogging groove. It may even become addictive!

Happy blogging!

Once you write more and more posts, and read more and more blogs (on Disaboom and elsewhere), you will

I was told about DIsaboom by the director of training at Veteran's Business Training Center (VBTC) at the Purple Heart Foundation. I am amazed how this search for what to blog about has made me aware of the sense of "oneness" there is within the disabled community. In spite of a very successful training program at the VBTC, and getting employment that is ideally tailored for me as a telecommuter working from home, I was still feeling isolated. This 'voice' in the form of a blog site is PERFECT for making me feel connected with others in the disabled community and I feel it's absolutely BRILLIANT that somebody thought of it. I can't wait to get started putting my thoughts here and reading what others in the community of disabled folks are thinking and writing about! (Thanks Mrs. P!!!)
