I love your license plates saying! LOL! With our conditions, humor that isn&#39;t insulting, helps a great deal!

In my personal experience, some able bodied people, while well meaning, their insistence is often off putting.

Sometimes, &quot;help&quot; is how THEY THINK we need help, some don&#39;t wanna listen to how we truly need help.

I&#39;ve had some good help from able bodied people, so please don&#39;t misunderstand this post.<img src="http://www.disaboomlive.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=93284" width="1" height="1">

Re: What do you want me to do, cry?

Your wonderful post........just proves.......that....where there&#39;s a will......there&#39;s a way ! They said
get the license plate....but I stoped there.
Batrhroom....once at a powwow at a university in MT I went to
the bthrm. But the handicap stall was being used by a non ha-
ndicap person. So I just grab hold of vacant stall and walked
in the tiny stall by grabbing. It worked for me.
Use to chew out those using the stalls but later was told they&#39;re
no handicap sign. But still if one has any common sense they
should know those are designed for the physically challenged.

Use to get vocal to the ignorant. But now I&#39;m more calm. Just
let it go and move on.<img src="http://www.disaboomlive.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=92974" width="1" height="1">

Re: What do you want me to do, cry?

What do you want me to do cry. or stand and clap? This year the statae came in our city and put in curb cuts from one end of the city to the other even adding somme new sidewalks. This was done on a state highway so that is the reason behind it. Well I started a grup advocateing for change in our city and at the firstmy phone was ringing thanking me for getting changes done so fast.
Well then a concrete contractor said to the city concil that they where not to code justadding to our sidewalks that where not to code. So the concil said ok it is time to see that all sidewalks are brought up to code. Ok now my phone is ringing daily calling me things i have never been caled before. So I went to the next meeting and talked with the contracter before the meeting started and we came together with a program that unless the sidewalk is in a poor condition they wont need to be brought up to code until the property changes hands or becomes in poor condition. ok now my phone has almost stopped ringing except from those who where in the middle of selling now loosing the cost of the sidewalks. I am glad we are not selling that many homes and businesses here right now.<img src="http://www.disaboomlive.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=92818" width="1" height="1">

Re: What do you want me to do, cry?

If you do not have a sense of humor about your shortcomings and others you will not recover well, when my back first broke and they were contemplating on what to do, since I live on a small island I had to be transported via Air to the hospital why they didnt use an air ambulance I will never know? They used to put me on a midget wheelchair and hoist me with a crane into the aircraft and whenever they hit an air pocket I would scream? A little unnerving for the regular passengers, once on the ground in Honolulu I would ride the so called &quot;HANDI VAN&quot; that was chock full of mental cases who would hoot with glee every time the half as driver hit a bump causing me to scream?
Then there was a little mongoloid dude in a Mickey D&#39;s suit who was trying to wipe boogers on me? I would rather bust the bank and ride a cab than undergo that again I have a card from the state that allows me to utilize it but I refuse one ride was enough <img src="http://www.disaboomlive.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=92799" width="1" height="1">

Re: What do you want me to do, cry?

you certainly can write! very amusing, erudite and exposing too. Outstanding Blog! You are a champion among us! Thanks for all you have done for those who can now enter bathroom stalls and have access to the elevator of their destination. Thanks especially for sharing your success with us. It gives us a feeling of hope and possibility

Very nice post, loved the humor, your deadpan approach to ables around you. . Do you work by yourself or with a group to get the access problems in your community taken care of? I know of several places in my own city that could use some light shown on them about becoming accessable. How would I do that, who would I contact. We here at Disaboom, would expect you to laugh and you have not disappointed. Welcome and hope to talk to you again.

Blessings
