Over at Momologue, we're Blogging for Autism Awareness during the month of April.
You may have seen the statistics showing that for every 1 in 150 births, a child is diagnosed with autism. When looking at the statistic for male births, it rises to 1 out of 94 births. This statistic comes from the Centers for Disease Control in 2007. Just a few years ago, it was 1 in 3,000 births, with the majority including boys.
This means that most likely, you know a family who is raising a child with Autism. I grew up with a friend who had some behaviors that we simply thought were "quirky." It wasn't until at the age of 40, he was diagnosed with Aspergers. Suddenly, all of the "quirks," made sense.
