When I asked my youngest son what he wanted for Christmas, he said he wanted Guitar Hero III.  I hestitated, not because he was hard of hearing, but because Steven had never shown an interest in guitars before.  I envisioned a hundred bucks out the window and a guitar gathering dust.

But Steven was insistent.  Each time I inquired about gift desires, the Guitar Hero III was on the list.  Grandma Putz decided that she would buy the gift for him and we went shopping for it.  It was out of stock everywhere.  So my sister-in-law ordered one online and we were confident we would have it in time for Christmas.

That didn't happen.  We received the Guitar Hero III game, but no guitar.  We discovered that a package mix-up had occurred and the Guitar Hero III was on its way to Florida.  There was no way to get the guitar in time for Christmas.

Steven was really disappointed when he opened his presents and learned that there was no guitar to open.  But he took it all in stride.  Each day, he asked me if his guitar came in the mail.  The new year was welcomed in, but no guitar.  We finally got the box several days later and he opened it with glee.

He played Guitar Hero all day long.  And the next day.  And the next.

And he's still playing it today.

He's now developed a new disability:  Guitar Hero Thumb.
