This morning, Google alerted me to a new blog that had my own blog, A Deaf Mom Shares Her World, listed on it. It is called Disability in Context. It appears to be a rather new blog and it lists many other blogs by people with disabilities. There's about 25 blogs listed on there. Many of them I recognize but there are several that are new to me such as Disability Culture Watch and FRIDA. I discovered that FRIDA (Feminist Response in Disability Action) hails from Chicago, not far from where I live. FRIDA began simply with several women getting together for lunch:
People often ask how FRIDA got started. Well...a couple years ago, six women who worked for Access Living got sick and tired of the crap we saw happening to women with disabilities in the news and we basically decided to start having brown bag lunches talking about different topics. Before long that snowballed into a town hall...which snowballed into direct action campaigns...which snowballed into the national network of feminists and the official Chicago group known as FRIDA today. Mighty oaks really do spring from tiny acorns.
I cracked up seeing some of the pictures on the blog-- the spunky gals are wearing sanitary pads as nameplates during one of their events.
Some of the blogs that I'm more familiar with include The Gimp Parade, Andrea's Buzzing About and Diary of a Goldfish. Kara, who blogs here at Disaboom, also has her blog listed, If The World Had Wheels. Also listed there is the popular Disability Carnival, but unfortunately it is not linked on the blog. Here's the link: Disability Blog Carnival. This is a monthly carnival of blogs carrying stories or issues with people with disabilities. Many more links to disability sites can be found at the bottom of the page.
If you're looking for books on disability topics, you'll find several of them listed at Disability in Context.
There was no "About" page or introduction from the owner of the blog, so there's no way to find out who is authoring this blog at the moment.
