Imagine typing out an entire book using just your left thumb. Glenda Watson Hyatt from Canada did just that. Keystroke by keystroke, Glenda used her left thumb to type out and publish her first book: "I'll Do It Myself!" Glenda has cerebral palsy that resulted from a lack of oxygen at birth and she shares that, "Cerebral palsy isn't a death sentence, but rather a life sentence."
I can't recall how I "met" Glenda online or discovered her blog, but I'm a regular reader and Glenda and I chat through emails every now and then. I especially enjoyed participating in her virtual book tour: Glenda Watson Hyatt Roars In! And for the record, Glenda's book is a humorous look at life, not just life with cerebral palsy. I give it "two thumbs up!"
Glenda is currently in second place in the "Blog for a Year" contest. Says Glenda:
Since I was young, I have dreamt of having a regular column (then a newspaper column, now a blogging job) in which I share my experiences as a person living with a disability to show that I am more than my cerebral palsy; to show that I am capable of having a career, running a business, being married and owning a home, that I am interested in politics, global warming, and, heaven forbid, even sex, and that I have “normal” every day problems too. My reason for wanting to write this kind of column/blog is to alleviate people’s fears of those with disabilities in a non-confrontional and humorous way. Being paid to blog about this would be a dream come true and would fullfil what I believe is my life’s purpose.
