May I add that Hillsborough County, Florida is quite infamous as an anti-equality place. Ronda Storms is to blame for much of the anti-gay climate there, since she banned Gay Pride; Google it and read about her bigotted and hateful bible-pushing closed-minded anti-gay/equality beliefs! Anyhooo, since many in Hatesborough, I mean Hillsborough County obviously support(ed) her, and since there are reports of other police brutality incidents at that same prison, one may come to the conclusion that Hillsborough County, Florida should be avoided at all costs!

Wheelchair on Steroids: I give you the Tank Chair

I’ve seen quite a few “look-at-me loud” disability inventions in my day, from the rockin’ Intimate Rider

Re: On Hate

Thank you for addressing the hateful responses that are totally unwarranted against Tom Mundy. I was hoping some of the information could help companion pet owners too. Glad to hear it did.
@Wayne- So nice to "meet" another family whose service dogs are not the usual breeds. Great reminder on supplements too. My Bailey has a fairly serious heart murmur that we discovered a few years ago. We put her on a supplement for cardiovascular health and whether it was that or good fortune, the grade of the murmur has improved.
@Thomas: DATO sounds like a great organization. Would you mind private messaging me? I'd like to talk about arranging an interview to help you get some more online attention.
@Duane: No worries on the double comments. Seems to be a long-lasting glitch on Disaboom so it's not you. Your food bill is exactly ours and it adds up! I had no idea we could itemize our dog expenses-that's really great news. I'm going to code the IRS code to learn more about that but thanks for the heads up.

Re: Illusions of Inclusion

@APersonOnline: You make a really interesting point because there are also illusions of inclusion in the virtual (aka online world). Several years ago, I used to believe that EVERYTHING should be entirely inclusive. Since then, however, I've learned that there is an exceptional value to some exclusive programs-which are designed for or include only-or mostly-people with disabilities. Adapted sports programs and sites like Disaboom might be an example.
Your mention that the media often represents us negatively is certainly a concern. Another worry is that at times they don't represent us at all (like in movies, sitcoms, commercials, etc.). Thanks for your comment-it got me thinking!

Re: Service Dogs and Veterinarian Bills

If this posts twice, my apologies. I just had a computer glitch. I have two SDs myself, and we feed then Nutro as well. And yes, it is expensive, about $54 every three weeks for us. There is a way to recoup some of your expenses for your SDs: the IRS! Did you know that if you have a SD everything you buy for your SD(s) is 100% deductible (provided you can itemize, of course). It is deductible as miscellaneous medical expenses, I believe, but don't quote me on that particular part. What the IRS told my tax preparer was deductible includes: 100% of food, treats, toys, bedding, crates, doghouses, seatbelts (we all belt our dogs in, don't we?), vet bills, mileage to and from the vets office, medicines required for our SD, vest.capes/patches (if you use them), grooming, boarding for those times you can't take them with you. I had a hard time convincing my tax preparer that I was serious about deducting my dogs, even though I had a printout of the tax codes from the IRS website with me. I had to almost threaten to go elsewhere before she called and confirmed my information. Man, was she surprised! It sure helped me the last two years, and hopefully it will help others.

Best of health and success.

We are a non profit organization that helps people with disabilities with their vet bills for service animals. We get our money from selling candy and donations. We don't yet have the money for the purchase of a wheelchair, but we can assist with repairs. Maybe there is a similar organization in your area. The fact is - these same search engines continue to produce results that also present people with disabilities in highly negative ways, as does Facebook and Twitter.

Inclusiveness is only achieved when we are viewed as equals. If equality means that we are to be equally demeaned, then what is the point of attempts at inclusiveness?

If I were to give you a dollar each and every day, yet call you an idiot as I did so, would the good of giving you a dollar mean anything?

He is a one-man small business wrecking crew! He has over 100 lawsuits pending for the first 6 months of 2009.
It is one thing to sue someone for a wrong. It is another to sue, purely on ones own behalf, for a perceived wrong. Mr. Mundy rolls by, or into businesses he has no intention of being a customer of and sues for perceived wrongs. He is a hit and run extortionist at best, and a false prophet for ADA compliance at worst.
His motives are completely self-serving. I could side with him if he were doing this to help people other than just himself. When it is just about the money, then I see only a vexatious litigant.
Come on, $5K for a minor problem in a bathroom that was built in the 1950's that is in a building that has seen no remodel or upgrade since 1962??? Oh, and has at least one regular customer who is in a wheelchair and has NO ISSUES as far as accessability?
Hello, it is obvious this guy just wants $$$. If it were about equity for the disabled, he would ask for compliance first. Duh!!!
BTW, there is no such thing as equality...for anyone.
