I've been hit by a van too, just glad I don't remember any of it. July 20' 1995, I was at a friends house, and we went accross highway 61 in Two Harbors, MN, and I guess it must've been busy. Well, we crossed, then we both were hit, a friend and myself. He had a compound fracture of his leg, because he turned back toward the block, and didn't get hit as badly as I did. I took the full impact of the van, going roughly 35 mph. I had two collapsed lungs, two bleeds on the brain, a bruise around my heart, and a very bad roadrash on my left leg, because I was dragged 59 feel underneath the van as a piece of clothing caught onto the bottom. Then it came to a halt, and I was left there on the highway, clinging to life. A woman working at the bakery who witnessed the incident rushed outside and flagged down traffic, also calling 911. I was rushed into intensive care, hokked up to tubes and what not. There was a 50-50 chance I would survive the night, which I obviously did. I was comatose for more than a week, and should have died that night. I had to learn how to talk again, how to function again, how to do a lot of things again, especially motor skills, which I failed miserably coming out of the coma. I then was transferred to a different intensive care unti, because it had a burn center, so that the nurses could scrub my leg that was skun up, because there was rocks and glass in it, so they had a towel that they would use to scrub for about twenty seconds a day. It was the most intense pain that I went through while concious. I would scream because it hurt so bad.But then they were able to perform surgery, and there was skin-grafting, Plus, the ventilator was taken out, so I could then breathe on my own, after a few days. I recovered quicker than normal somehow. I was supposed to be in a vegetative state, which is what the doctors thought would happen. But that's not the case. I recovered very well, and am glad to be alive and functioning like a normal human being today. That's my story, dude. But yeah, I understand where you're coming from: Getting stuck by a van really is the pits!

Re: More Pictures from Beijing

Congrats Alejandro! I've noticed a serious lack of coverage myself. I'm out on the internet daily, and I see phenomenal coverage of the Paralympics from other countries, and nothing from the states. Hopefully this will change.
